Damp surveys

Rising damp and DPC
Rising damp happens when moisture from the ground soaks up through a wall because the damp-proof course (DPC) has failed, been bridged or was never there. Once we've confirmed it really is rising damp, we can install a new DPC, including chemical DPC injection.
Signs to look for
- A tidemark low on the wall, usually up to about a metre
- White, powdery salts on the wall surface
- Rotting or stained skirting boards
- Crumbling plaster near the floor

Penetrating damp
Penetrating damp is water getting in from outside, through walls, roofs, windows, doors or leaking gutters. We trace where it's coming in and fix the cause, not just the stain.
Signs to look for
- Damp patches that grow after heavy rain
- Damp at any height, often on outside walls
- Damp around windows, doors or chimneys
- Cracked render or missing pointing outside

Condensation and mould
Condensation is the most common cause of damp in UK homes. Moist air settles on cold surfaces and mould follows. We diagnose it, treat the mould, improve ventilation and give practical advice to stop it coming back.
Signs to look for
- Black mould in corners, behind furniture or around windows
- Windows streaming with water in the morning
- Musty smells, especially in bedrooms and bathrooms
- Problems that get worse in winter

Basement and cellar tanking
Tanking waterproofs below-ground rooms so they stay dry, whether you want better storage or a room you can actually use. We assess the space and recommend the right approach for it.
Signs to look for
- Damp or wet cellar walls
- Puddles or standing water after rain
- White salt deposits on brick or stone
- A strong musty smell below ground

Timber treatment
We identify and treat woodworm, wet rot and dry rot, and deal with the damp that caused the rot in the first place, so the problem doesn't return.

- Small round holes and fine dust in timber

Replastering
After damp treatment, walls often need replastering with the right materials so salts and moisture don't spoil the finish. We leave walls sound and ready to decorate.

- Plaster that sounds hollow or is coming away
- Salt-stained plaster that won't hold paint
- Walls that need making good after a new DPC

Exterior repairs
Many damp problems start outside. We carry out above-ground repairs, including damp-proof courses, drainpipes and guttering, rendering and pointing, to stop water getting in.

- Overflowing or leaking gutters and downpipes
